RZR High Gear Spacer

The RZR High Gear Spacer is an effective way to prevent losing high gear in your Polaris RZR or General.  The high gear on the reverse shaft floats on a set of needle bearings and is held in place by a washer and retainer clip on each side.  If you routinely try to shift gears without stopping the RZR, or letting the RPMs fully drop to idle, the shift dog puts undo stress bouncing on the side of the high gear.  This stress can cause the retainer clip to pop out of its groove.  That allows the high gear to shift over and can no longer be engaged.  Sometimes the retainer clip breaks instead of just popping out of the groove, which can then get between the gear teeth and wreak havoc on your transmission.  The RZR High Gear Spacer replaces the washer and retainer clip on one side and takes up the gap between the high gear and the bearing.  We highly suggest installing one in your transmission along with our heavy duty bearing retainer plates.

Description

If your Polaris RZR won’t shift into high gear — or keeps popping out of high — the usual culprit is the factory retainer clip on the transmission’s reverse shaft. The American-made Polaris RZR High Gear Spacer eliminates that weak point for $49 by replacing the washer and retainer clip on one side with a solid machined spacer.

What it fits

  • Polaris RZR XP 1000 and RZR XP Turbo
  • Polaris RZR Turbo S and RZR Turbo R
  • Polaris RZR 900 XP and RZR 900 S
  • Polaris General

It installs any time the transmission is open — the perfect “while you’re in there” upgrade alongside the rest of our RZR transmission parts.

Why RZRs lose high gear

Frequently asked questions

Why won’t my Polaris RZR shift into high gear?
The most common cause is a failed retainer clip on the transmission’s reverse shaft. The high gear is held in place by a washer and retainer clip — shifting before the RPMs drop to idle stresses the clip until it pops out of its groove. The gear slides over and high can no longer be engaged. The RZR High Gear Spacer replaces that washer-and-clip setup so it can’t happen.

What does the Polaris RZR High Gear Spacer do?
It replaces the washer and retainer clip on one side of the high gear and takes up the gap between the gear and the bearing. With the gap gone, the gear can’t walk sideways and there’s no clip to pop out — or break and end up in your gear teeth. $49, made in the USA.

Which Polaris models does the high gear spacer fit?
Polaris RZR XP 1000, RZR XP Turbo, RZR Turbo S, RZR Turbo R, RZR 900 XP, RZR 900 S, and the Polaris General. Not sure about your machine? Call 530-492-0429 before ordering.

Will it fix a RZR that already lost high gear?
If the clip popped out or broke, the spacer goes in as part of the repair — it replaces the failed washer and clip so the same failure can’t repeat. Inspect the high gear, needle bearings, and shaft while the transmission is apart, and replace anything the clip damaged.

Do I have to open the transmission to install it?
Yes. The spacer installs on the reverse shaft inside the case, so it goes in whenever your transmission is already apart — a rebuild, a gear swap, or a bearing job. That’s why we suggest installing it together with our Heavy Duty Bearing Retainer Plate.

Is the Polaris RZR High Gear Spacer made in the USA?
Yes — made in the USA. We ship it from our shop in Athol, Idaho.

How fast does it ship?
Orders ship within 5 business days, often sooner. Free shipping to the Lower 48.
